It's a Boo Day

Boo #1:  Well I finally found some time to get some computering done.  lol  This is a crazy time of year in our household. 100_0889.jpg Birthdays, holidays, etc.  Anyway, I did manage to get Missyboo's birthday hat done.  She loves it, especially since she started wearing it to school and getting compliments on it each day so far!  She just walks around with a big grin on her face, saying "Thanks, my Mom made it for me."  She's quite the character.  So let's see if I still remember how to get the picture loaded here!

Boo #2: (sort of) :)  I've been tagged by Dee for CGOA's first Meme, who was tagged by Vashti.  And to participate, all you need to do is:

1. Begin by including a link to Vashti's post and a link to the person who tagged you.
2. Answer the question: Are you crocheting something that you would not be crocheting if you were not a CGOA Member?, or more broadly this question: "How has your experience of crochet been changed by your CGOA membership?" Give a single one-line answer, or more for extra credit.
3. End by linking to 3 (or 5, for extra credit) other bloggers among whom you'd like to see squirm publicly with this challenging, yet strangely satisfying essay question.

So now #1 is taken care of, thanks Dee! :), and on to....

2. I've just finished a beaded cloche hat for Missyboo that I probably wouldn't have tried, except for having a workshop at my local CGOA chapter meeting a couple of months ago.  More broadly, I've had my "eyes" opened more about different things that go on with the "yarn business" than I knew was there before - CGOA conferences, classes, local chapters, Professional Development Day, etc.  WOWEE!

3:(now the boo part)  I'm too shy to publicly make someone else do this.  (hahahahaha) Really tho, I'm so new to doing this that I don't know too many people well enough to just comfortably publicly tag their blogs.  (that's the shy part!)  And I don't think I can just return the tag.  Hmm, or can I?  Dee, you've been tagged again!  :D  You, too, Priscilla, and Margaret!  ;D    I think that covers that!  lol

And now Boo #3:  My poor Packers sure got beat up last nite against the 'Boys.  Big boohoo for that one!  :(

Have a good night.  :)

Another Turkey Done In

So....did you all eat too much for Thanksgiving again?!  I know I did, and each year I tell myself I won't don't it.  But the food is soooooo gooood!!!! Turkey, gravy, taters, sweet taters, beets, green beans, spinach (Iknow, yeeechk!) fresh hot biscuits.....I'm making myself hungry again - stop!  Oh yeah, and pies!  Yummmmm.

Of course, with all the cooking, eating, visiting and working, I haven't been doing my hooking.  But I did succeed in getting two new Graydog crochet hooks to add to my collection of one!  I ended up with two size P's, not really expecting to win either of them.  That's what I get for expecting!  I'll have to check in another hour or so to see if I won my fourth!  I'm trying to get my L - S sized hooks replaced.  I can't stand the "stick" of the yarn using the ones I have now.  If you've never seen a Graydog crochet hook before, go to Ebay and check them out.  Absolutely gorgeous! and handmade from woods, not that nasty, sticky plastic stuff.  Wonder if they could make a complete set from A to S on commission, hhhmmmmm.........

And my Packers won AGAIN!  Yay!!!!  Say what you will, I'm still calling for a Packers/Steelers Superbowl.  Let the Steelers knock out the Patriots in the playoffs.  (I know, I'm dreamin', but anything's possible in dreams!)

Have a good night!  :)

What a Week!

Whew, what a week!  I'll be glad to go back to work just to rest up!  Spent this past week catching up on things that were put off because of Missyboo's being ill and appointments for different things that needed attending to.  Then it was time to get ready for both Missyboo and Hubby's birthday.  No "s".  They share the same day.  SO, according to hubby, he has no more birthdays, he gave them up to her.  HE gave them up?  Who was on the bed pushing and panting?!   lol  Then we had to get ready for a birthday party one of my girlfriends had for her daughters.  It was pretty neat.  She had a "cooking" party for about 15 girls.  Everything was all set up for them to make their own cookies.  The only thing they needed to do was roll the dough, cut the dough, and after baking, decorate!  They all had their little chef hats and aprons on with their own bowls of dough and flour, rolling pins and cookie sheets.  They got to pick out cookie cutter shapes from a huge assortment spread out on another table, and when done, exchanged them for different ones.   Girlfriend was smart - she opted to rent a place for the "event" rather than have it at home!  I think I would have done the same!  lol

With everything that was going on, I didn't get a chance to finish a hat I was making for Missyboo's present.  It was done once already, but it needed to be taken out almost to the crown again.  For some reason, it didn't stay the size it was supposed to.  Every time I had her try it on to check the sizing, it seemed to be fine.  But after I quit increasing, the hat didn't.  I don't think that yarn likes me very much.  lol  At least Missyboo still does.  She'll be happy the hat will be done tomorrow.  I'll have to get a picture posted of it once it's done.  It came out pretty cute the first time.  :D

I also re-arranged a bit in the picture gallery again.  One of the ladies in my crochet club asked everyone "What's your favorite pattern book to work from?"  Well mine at the moment is Jane Sneddon Peever's More Crocheted Aran Sweaters.  I have pictures of two of the patterns I've done from that book posted already, and I'm hoping to "borrow" some others from my DIL and get pictures of them, too!  I love almost every one of those patterns.  I can't wait to get busy on some more of them.

And my Packers won another game today!!  Hurray!!!!

Have a good night. ;D

Meeting Doris Chan

Hi Everyone,

I had the best time at our local HHCC chapter meeting yesterday - Doris Chan was a guest visitor!  She brought some of her own clothes made from her newest book, and wow!  They look better "in person" than they do in the book!  And they looked pretty good in the book to begin with!  :)  I had a question regarding fitting through the shoulders, and she had me try on one of her cardigans.  I was a bit leery about that since there was this thing called "size difference" (5'2 vs 5'8 and a few pounds more), but surprise, surprise!  (and it was on me) I could wear it.  I was so afraid I would stretch it out to the point it wouldn't come back into shape for her to wear again!  I will definitely be making some of the patterns in that book for me!!!!  That's going to be a strange one - I haven't made anything for me yet that I've actually kept for me.  :}  And you're right Dee, I did some posting!  lol

Well its time to get Missyboo and myself ready to go down for the night.  She had been home all last week sick, and my poor hubby was seriously lacking in the sleep dept. because of it.  I took pity on the two of them and stayed home from work myself for a day.  I don't know which one was worse - hubby or daughter!  I sent them both to bed and enjoyed a nice quiet night.  lol

Have a good night.  :)

More Pictures

Hi Everyone!

I've added more pictures to the Gallery, in the My Designs section.  It includes my first (serious)(lol) effort at knitting in the round while having color changes, and making my first ever knitted hat.  (which was easier than I thought it would be)  The scarf is done in stockinette stitch, which, as seasoned knitters know and I finally figured out, is straight knitting, no purls!  I did the hat in the rib stitch on straight sticks, (now don't holler about terminology; I tell the chiropractor I'm ready for a crunching, too, not an adjustment!) using double strands of the yarn.  The hat was done in a couple of hours, and the scarf took me a couple of days.  Both were made for my local chapter's Hat, Scarf and Mittens drive for the Salvation Army.  I've got my fingers crossed a boy between 8 - 12 yrs old will pick it up for the winter.

Now if I could only crochet a pair of dress shoes for my daughter!  She's going to be a flower girl at her cousin's wedding, and we spent ALL day today going to different stores trying to find a pair of silver or gold shoes for her.  Even a decent looking pair of dyeable shoes. I can't just order her a pair from a catalog or online because the size is dependent upon the type and maker of the shoe.  Missy-Boo has a three size range! Then I remembered she needed new slippers since her heels were really really overlapping the back of the heel on the old ones.  Did you know you can get women's slippers in the women's sleepwear section, men's slippers in the men's sleep/under wear section, but IF you can find ANY slippers for 6 year olds, they're in the style of flip-flops.  Say what?!  Flip-flop Slippers.  Is it me, or is that another oxymoron?!  Good thing I know how to felt now, thanks to a workshop I took part in with Margaret Hubert during one of our monthly chapter meetings!  I CAN crochet Missy-Boo a new pair of slippers! :D

Have a good night.  :)
