Meeting Doris Chan

Hi Everyone,

I had the best time at our local HHCC chapter meeting yesterday - Doris Chan was a guest visitor!  She brought some of her own clothes made from her newest book, and wow!  They look better "in person" than they do in the book!  And they looked pretty good in the book to begin with!  :)  I had a question regarding fitting through the shoulders, and she had me try on one of her cardigans.  I was a bit leery about that since there was this thing called "size difference" (5'2 vs 5'8 and a few pounds more), but surprise, surprise!  (and it was on me) I could wear it.  I was so afraid I would stretch it out to the point it wouldn't come back into shape for her to wear again!  I will definitely be making some of the patterns in that book for me!!!!  That's going to be a strange one - I haven't made anything for me yet that I've actually kept for me.  :}  And you're right Dee, I did some posting!  lol

Well its time to get Missyboo and myself ready to go down for the night.  She had been home all last week sick, and my poor hubby was seriously lacking in the sleep dept. because of it.  I took pity on the two of them and stayed home from work myself for a day.  I don't know which one was worse - hubby or daughter!  I sent them both to bed and enjoyed a nice quiet night.  lol

Have a good night.  :)

More Pictures

Hi Everyone!

I've added more pictures to the Gallery, in the My Designs section.  It includes my first (serious)(lol) effort at knitting in the round while having color changes, and making my first ever knitted hat.  (which was easier than I thought it would be)  The scarf is done in stockinette stitch, which, as seasoned knitters know and I finally figured out, is straight knitting, no purls!  I did the hat in the rib stitch on straight sticks, (now don't holler about terminology; I tell the chiropractor I'm ready for a crunching, too, not an adjustment!) using double strands of the yarn.  The hat was done in a couple of hours, and the scarf took me a couple of days.  Both were made for my local chapter's Hat, Scarf and Mittens drive for the Salvation Army.  I've got my fingers crossed a boy between 8 - 12 yrs old will pick it up for the winter.

Now if I could only crochet a pair of dress shoes for my daughter!  She's going to be a flower girl at her cousin's wedding, and we spent ALL day today going to different stores trying to find a pair of silver or gold shoes for her.  Even a decent looking pair of dyeable shoes. I can't just order her a pair from a catalog or online because the size is dependent upon the type and maker of the shoe.  Missy-Boo has a three size range! Then I remembered she needed new slippers since her heels were really really overlapping the back of the heel on the old ones.  Did you know you can get women's slippers in the women's sleepwear section, men's slippers in the men's sleep/under wear section, but IF you can find ANY slippers for 6 year olds, they're in the style of flip-flops.  Say what?!  Flip-flop Slippers.  Is it me, or is that another oxymoron?!  Good thing I know how to felt now, thanks to a workshop I took part in with Margaret Hubert during one of our monthly chapter meetings!  I CAN crochet Missy-Boo a new pair of slippers! :D

Have a good night.  :)

A Designer Now?!

Well, I had some interesting news today!  A lady I made a scarf for as a thank-you present called me to ask if the design is original to me, and when I told her "Yes", I was informed that she would like to purchase the design from me!   I was absolutely flabbergasted  to say the least!   All I could do was stutter a few words here and there.  I was sooooo not expecting that!  Woohoo!  I guess I just sold my first design today!  :D

I finished my first scarf knitted in the round AND did three-needle bind-off to finish it!  I was amazed.  It actually looks pretty decent for a first time effort!  I even decided to make a matching hat.  That's all done also except for the final seaming.  That turned out pretty good, too.  I'll get a picture of it posted soon.  One thing I did learn about the differences between knitting and crocheting - it's easier to work with, carry up, and secure different colors within one project doing crochet than knitting!  Maybe I just need to learn a few tricks of the (knitting) trade to change my opinion of that, but so far, I think I'll stay with the hook, and dabble with the needles! ;)

Have a good night! :)

Seeing First Project in "Print"

Hey!

Happy Belated Halloween!  Hope everyone stayed safe last night.  Missy-Boo sure came home with a bundle!  We still haven't gotten it all sorted yet.  We had gotten her a wig to wear with her "Gothic Princess" costume. and boy, did she look like Cousin It with a face!  We did a little braiding of the hairs so it would be a bit more "contained" for the festivities.  She had a good time.

I was looking at the LionBrand site for an easy knit hat pattern since I decided it was time for me to learn to knit.  Why, I don't know, but...when the site first opened up, I was looking at my first "printed" project!  I was so surprised to see it!  They were toys named Furry Pal, Pumpkin Pal and Pirate Pal.  If they don't show on the front page, you can find them by typing the names into the "Search" box.  They were a fast, fun, and easy project to make up.  Then Missy-Boo came into the room and saw them also.  She said, "Look, Mom, there's the fuzzy monster you made!"  Then I got a big hug.  I was happy.  :D

Have a good night.

Playing Around

Hi!

Here I thought I was done for the night.  Then I remembered it was Sunday night, the one night of the week I get to stay up late!  So I got to playing around with this site, and thought I would try out a different scheme.  For those that have been here before, leave me a note to let me know which layout you like better, this current one or the first one ever for me.  (if you remember what that one looked like! ;p )
